Artwork

My two biggest passions are frogs and creating art! Therefore, I tend to create a lot of frog themed artwork. Here are some of the pieces of art I've made over the past few years.

Archey's Frog Painting.jpg
Hop on Pop (Archey's Frog)

I created this painting for Earth Day, where I was going to sell endangered animal artwork with my friends. I had been wanting to do a painting of an Archey's Frog family for a while, and this was a perfect opportunity, given their critically endangered status. I hope to accomplish three things with this painting- reveal the loving bond of this father and his children, embrace the beauty of nature, and spread awareness about Archey's Frogs and other endangered amphibians.

Carolina Gopher Frog

I painted this ceramic tile of a Carolina Gopher frog on April 1st and 2nd of 2017. Carolina Gopher Frogs are North Carolina's most endangered frog species, and are threatened greatly by habitat destruction. Andy Gould, FrogWatch Chapter Coordinator at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, inspired me to artwork featuring this species, and I am happy with how it turned out!

Panamanian Golden Frog

Panamanian golden frogs are one of the most endangered amphibian species in the world. After having their populations decimated by the spread of chytridiomycosis in Panama, this species only narrowly escaped extinction when scientists quickly moved as many individuals as they could into captivity. This species has been extinct in the wild since 2007, and it is unknown whether they will ever be able to be reintroduced into the wild. I created this short animation to quickly share their dire situation.

American Green Tree Frog

I created this short animation of an American Green Tree Frog breathing a while ago. I haven't used it for a specific purpose, but I liked how it turned out, and American Green Tree Frogs are ubiquitous enough that I can use this as a generic frog animation for anything I'd like!

Frog Jumping Measurements

This is something I created for a school assignment. I had to create a piece of art that was sport related. I decided to create a demonstration of how far different species of frogs and toads could leap, and compare that to the length of various combinations of balls used in sports! The measurements turned about being pretty difficult. First, I had to research the measurements of all of those items, measure the size of the frog species and their jump lengths, and then figure out what combination of various sports balls could most closely approach the jump lengths of the frogs. And then, I had to animate it all in a way it would look nice! There's some inconsistencies- you can see that some frogs jump past their marks, and others barely meet it. But I worked really hard, and I'm proud of how it turned out!

Jumping Frog Recycled Sculpture

I hadn't created any three dimensional artwork in a while, so in 2015, I decided to create this piece of artwork. It's made out of recycled materials, which I liked, because by creating a frog, I am also helping preserve them!

Save the Frogs Recycled Collage

I created this recycled piece in 2014 for a school assignment, where we had to help the environment in some sort of way. Naturally, I tied this to my interests in art and frogs, with the purpose of dually aiding amphibians by spreading the word and by reusing scrap paper that was lying around. The result is a dramatic statement for viewers to save the frogs!

Frog Tessellation

Here's another assignment, where I had to create a tessellation. Tessellations are definitely my favorite math assignments, because they're art! It's difficult to make a tessellation really look like something, though, and it took me a while to come up with this design. It's not perfect, and it doesn't exactly look like a frog, but I think it's pretty close! You can see the final design on the left, and my original designs on the right.

Frog Jumping Painting

This monster of a painting took me the whole summer of 2014! I wanted a piece where a frog was active, rather than just sitting, and I don't know how much more active I could have gone than this! Given that it's 2 feet by 3 feet, it took a long time, but I'm really happy with how it turned out!
